Now that all the cast have signed on to make a second installment of the Todd Phillips hit comedy “Hangover” Bradley Cooper revealed that he never thought he would get the chance to start in the sequel.
He said “We start in October, the second. The script’s pretty great. I can’t wait to start actually. I love those guys. And never before would I think that we would be making a sequel to that movie!”
Cooper played the bestman in the first film. He is now dating Renee Zellweger. Thought pressed about detail of the new movie he kept tight lipped. He said “I believe we’re going to Thailand, yes.”
Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis and Justin Bartha have signed their contracts and with Phillips directing the sequel they are ready to go.
Speaking about the first “Hangover” movie Phillips said “We delivered what we said we would deliver, so I think they know I’m not looking to f**k up the “Hangover 2”, I want to make it funny, too.
“You know what I mean? I think basically my point is we’re all trying to do the same thing – make a real funny movie that works. So I think that they trust that certainly with that title – I can do that.”
Well, after months of speculation– and a denial or two from the man directing the film– it’s finally been confirmed: The Hangover 2 will take place in Thailand. Yes, the land of lady-boys and Pad-Thai will be welcoming Zach Galifianakis, Bradley Cooper, Justin Bartha, Ed Helms, and director Todd Phillips when the film begins shooting in just a few weeks. The original Hangover made hundreds of millions of dollars worldwide and established Galifianakis as a comedy force to be reckoned with, all while earning some very solid reviews. Will they be able to maintain that level of quality for the sequel? Well, experience tells us that, no, they won’t, but let’s hope for the best anyway. Read all about it below, my gentle Examiner readers…
Even though Hollywood doesn’t have the best track record when it comes to sequels, we’re willing to put our hope and faith into Todd Phillips for The Hangover 2. Maybe it’s because the first one exceeded expectations, or maybe it’s just because anything starring Zach Galifianakis automatically gets a pass here at the Comedy Examiner’s Office (lone exception: G-Force), but I’m inclined to give this one the benefit of the doubt. After months of speculation, Coming Soon has revealed that the sequel will, in fact, take place in Thailand (as previously denied by the film’s director). Here’s what they’re saying:
“The Hangover 2 is headed to Thailand, a source has just confirmed to ComingSoon.net. Production will move there this fall with a script that sees the characters from the 2009 hit comedy traveling to Asia.”
It would appear that Phillips’ denials about the film’s location were all just misdirection. Coming Soon also confirms that Bradley Cooper, Galifianakis, Ed Helms, and Justin Bartha will be appearing in round-two, settling the ongoing debate about whether or not Bartha had “earned” a spot in the sequel (of course he did, you nerds). Phillips is currently putting the finishing touches on Due Date– due to arrive in theaters this Fall– in addition to wrapping up the scripting for Hangover 2.
Which raises an interesting question: what will the script for Hangover 2 be like? Moving the film to Thailand seems to offer up some very obvious possible directions for the story to take, and after the first film, one can imagine all manner of debauchery that our heroes may be involved in. Will there be another hangover, wherein the cast are forced to retrace their steps? That seems lame, but wouldn’t there have to be in order to maintain the Hangover name? What do you think, folks? Sound off in the comments section below: we wanna know what you’re expecting out of The Hangover 2!
Stars of the hit comedy The Hangover – Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis have signed multi-million dollar deals to make a sequel.
Cooper, Helms and Galifianakis will get about $5 million each for a second instalment of the comedy, while director and producer Todd Phillips is set to earn $10 million, reports femalefirst.co.uk.
The Hangover, which tells the story of four men who go on a bachelor party in Las Vegas and wake up the next morning with no memory of what happened the night before, is the highest grossing R-rated comedy of all time, after becoming a surprise box office smash.
The three actors made less than $1 million collectively for the original movie and were reportedly keen to get a much better deal the second time around, according to industry specualtions.
Justin Bartha, who played the missing groom in the original, will also be back for the sequel, which is set to begin filming in October.
The Hangover is almost a year old, if you can believe it, so remember that when director Todd Phillips says round two will shoot in November, that’s actually a pretty good distance from when the original was shot. “That’s what we’re trying, but you know a lot of it has to do with Ed Helm’s Office schedule and Bradley Cooper’s other movies,” Phillips telss Collider. “Right now our goal is to start shooting November 1st.” Phillips also says that the rumored destination of Thailand is just that, a rumor. “There was rumor also that it was going to Mexico or something and neither are true,” he confirms.

Bradley Cooper might be the break-out star of 2009. With all this new-found power and pitched roles crowding his luxury condo (presumably), what does he have his eyes on in 2010? The Hangover 2, that’s what.
Cooper has revealed that he is exciting to begin production on the sequel to the sleeper hit of the summer of 2009, The Hangover. Oddly, Cooper, who is also starring in The A-Team, said he’d sign up for The Hangover 2 even if the script was terrible.
“Even if it’s not a good script, I’d do it! When you have an experience like this with people you get along with, it’s a rarity,” says Cooper. “So if someone says, ‘Do you want to spend three months doing it again?’ In a heartbeat!”
The Hangover made an amazing $462 million worldwide last year and was produced on a budget of only $35 million.
Cooper adds: “It’s a very intimate thing you go through, shooting a movie. You find out whether you really like somebody, or you very much dislike somebody pretty fast. It’s like doing a sport together.”
The Hangover 2 is due out in the summer of 2011 while The A-Team hits theaters this summer.
This summer’s biggest hit “The Hangover” is back — and Extratv.com has the scoop on what you can expect for the DVD and upcoming sequel.
Director Todd Phillips says he has begun the writing process for “The Hangover 2,” with shooting set for September 2010. The crew is back for round two; Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis and Justin Bartha.
Don’t expect any wild adventures in Sin City this time around. “It does not take place in Vegas,” Phillips confirms. The sequel also doesn’t pick up where the first film left off.
Bartha has yet to see the any of script, but verifies “The Hangover 2″ will be “very funny.”
“The Hangover” releases on DVD and Blu-ray Dec. 15 and it’s jam packed with bonus features and deleted scenes. Bartha says fans can expect more scenes of him alongside his on-screen father-in-law Jeffrey Tambor as well as “great Ken Jeong outtakes.”

The wolf pack is just about ready to get a little bigger. According to Entertainment Weekly, writer/director Todd Phillips is halfway done with writing a follow-up to the highly successful THE HANGOVER, which has, so far, made over $459 million worldwide. That includes $277 million domestic, making it the highest grossing R-rated comedy in history.
Phillips explains to EW that plans for a sequel were already being bandied about while production on the first film was underway.
You always have those days when you say, ‘If we did another one, wouldn’t it be funny if…?’ Then once the movie tested so well, Warner Bros. came to me even before it was released and said, ‘Let’s do another one.
While plot points for the sequel are being kept close to Phillips’ chest, he does say the film, tentatively titled THE HANGOVER 2, will reunite the trio of Zach Galifianakis, Bradley Cooper, and Ed Helms. Phillips also says the new film won’t simply revisit the bachelor-party-gone-horribly-wrong scenario.
I think you can take those characters and put them in other situations, and you don’t need the sell of Vegas and a bachelor party and all that other stuff.
Phillips is currently shooting DUE DATE with Robert Downey Jr. Galifianakis, Jamie Foxx, and Michelle Monaghan.
What do you think? Does the thought of a sequel to THE HANGOVER entice you? Are you interested to see what craziness Phil, Alan, and Stu can get themselves into next? Why do they call them roofies? Shoot us an email below with your thoughts.
Generating over $260 million, The Hangover was easily the movie of the summer. No surprise, then, that The Hangover 2 already has a release date set for 2011, with director Todd Phillips on board. But what about the cast?
Zach Galifianakis (who plays Allen) has expressed his reservations about going for round two:
“I haven’t seen the script. I’m not running to do The Hangover 2…The movie’s really good, why bother with a sequel? And I’m not saying that I’m not going to do it. I’m just posing these questions. These are things I ask Todd. Obviously, the reason is executives have Bentleys to pay for. I would love, love, love to work with those guys again. The script has to be good!”
So what about our favorite of the bunch, Ed Helms? We chatted with The Office star on the Emmys red carpet about the most recent update for the already anticipated sequel:
“I just know that it’s in the works,” Helms told us, sincerely adding that he “really hopes it happens.”
One of the reasons the movie was so successful is obviously because of the cast—all the guys have the total bro-chemistry thing going on. Ed said he’s chatted with his costars and it’s definitely something he wants to re-create.
“I certainly hope [the whole cast is back],” fesses E.H., who tells us he “thinks” it will definitely happen.
“I had such a good time making that movie, I would love to relive it.”
So there ya have it. Ed’s in—and let’s face it, Bradley Cooper will be in, too. Just look at what The Hangover did to his dating life. Trust us, the Coop isn’t letting that go anytime soon. Justin Bartha, what say you? Let’s make it happen! Don’t you all agree?
The Hangover, a fresh buddy-road-trip comedy made for $35 million, went on to rake in an incredible $403 million worldwide. With profits like that, it was inevitable that talk would turn to the possibility of a sequel. Break-out funny man Zach Galifianakis confirmed a few weeks ago that a script was being worked on, but had doubts about his participation in The Hangover 2.
I’m not running to do The Hangover 2. I told Todd [Phillips], the last thing I want is the Police Academy chain all of the sudden…. You’ve got to be careful with something like that. The movie’s really good, why bother with a sequel?
While Galifianakis’ comments are not exactly a ringing endorsement of a sequel, his co-star, Bradley Cooper, was far more optimistic when he was recently asked about The Hangover 2.
We’re actually really excited about the second one. We were talking about it while we were filming the first one ’cause we were having so much fun. Warner Bros. actually wanted to do it before it even came out.
Thanks to one of my lovely visitors for letting me know about this video! It’s a short video of Bradley talking about fame and The Hangover 2. Enjoy!
